Counting Crows is a Alternative rock and Rap act. Their catalogue also touches Rock. Their sound grew out of Paul Simon, R.E.M., Van Morrison, Tom Petty and Soul Asylum. Those roots explain a lot about how Counting Crows arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Gin Blossoms, Toad The Wet Sprocket, The Wallflowers, Hootie & The Blowfish and Better Than Ezra, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Maroon 5, Panic! at the Disco, Third Eye Blind, Everclear and Kurt Travis, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 83 connections around Counting Crows, reaching back through Paul Simon and forward to Maroon 5.
