Seal is a Contemporary R&B and House act. Their catalogue also touches Pop and Rhythm and blues. Their sound grew out of The Brothers Johnson, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Elton John and Michael Jackson. Those roots explain a lot about how Seal arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Annie Lennox, Lisa Stansfield, Lighthouse Family, Des'ree and Terence Trent D'Arby, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Maroon 5, Tony Levin, Adonxs, Blake Lewis and Remember Monday, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 96 connections around Seal, reaching back through The Brothers Johnson and forward to Maroon 5.
